My Role

As a freelance UI and brand designer, my role included ideating and finalizing a brand identity, and designing wireframes and high-fidelity mockups for their app. This project was completed remotely, requiring me to independently manage my timeline, communicate effectively with the startup team, and adapt to their needs.

Research & Interviewing

I began the project by interviewing the startup owners to gain a deep understanding of their goals, target audience, and unique value proposition. These conversations, along with a questionnaire I sent, helped me identify key attributes of their brand, including their desire to stand out in the competitive dating app market by emphasizing inclusivity, trust, and modernity.

Brand Design

Based on the research, I conceptualized and iteratively refined the brand's visual identity.

Final Brand Guide

Wireframing

With the brand identity established, I moved on to defining the app's structure and functionality. I sketched low-fidelity wireframes for key screens.

Key things Violet’s leads requested were the following:
  • Similar structure to pre-established dating apps, like Tinder and Hinge
  • A UI that centers follow-up on matches, emphasising the app’s date scheduling feature

These wireframes provided a foundation to explore the app’s layout and navigation while gathering feedback from the startup team.

Mock-Ups

Building on the wireframes, I created high-fidelity mockups to bring the app to life. Using the finalized brand identity, I applied visual elements such as:
  • Color and typography: Ensuring a thorough integration of brand aesthetics across the interface.
  • Interactive elements: Buttons, icons, and animations designed for clarity and delight.
  • Responsive design: Mockups were optimized for mobile devices, the primary platform for the app.

After feedback from the team, the final mock-up was produced. From there, the start-up decided to take on functional prototyping internally.

Conclusion

The final deliverables included a polished brand identity, flow-establishing wireframes, and high-fidelity mockups. These designs positioned the startup to confidently move forward with further design refinement, development, and marketing.

This project showcased my ability to manage a design process from initial research to final execution while communicating effectively with remote stakeholders.
